Biarritz
Biarritz is the grandest of the French Basque resorts: a curve of beaches, a lighthouse, and hotels that remember when Europe came here for the air. It is walkable, photogenic, and busy in high summer — which is why the best wedding houses sit just above the town or a few minutes inland, where the pine starts and the noise drops.
Venue types
Palace hotels and seafront rooms
Historic hotels with ballrooms, terraces over the Grande Plage, and the infrastructure for 100–200 guests who expect a proper reception. Strong when you want the town in the photographs.
Villas in the hills
Private houses toward Bidart, Arcangues, and the Route Impériale. Better for a takeover, a long lunch, and guests who will stay on the property.
Golf and park estates
Clipped lawns and long views a short drive from the lighthouse. Useful when you need a ceremony lawn and a covered dinner that can survive a Basque squall.
Best months
June and September are the most reliable: warm enough for a terrace, quieter than August, and still long in the evening. May and early October can be beautiful and are easier on hotels. July and August bring the town at full pitch — book rooms early, and consider a venue that does not depend on a public beach at sunset.
Nearest airport
Biarritz-Pays Basque (BIQ) is 10–15 minutes from the centre. Direct flights from Paris are frequent; seasonal routes from London, Dublin, and a handful of European cities. Bordeaux (BOD) is about two hours by car and opens long-haul connections. San Sebastián (EAS) is 40 minutes and useful for guests arriving from Madrid or Barcelona.
